February has been eventful at AGBU Armenian Virtual College (AVC). In addition to academic programs, AVC has always ensured that special opportunities are available for like-minded people to gather around various topics in Armenian studies. True to AGBU AVC’s overarching mission, these events aim to preserve, promote, and foster further interest in the Armenian language, culture, and history.
Last month, we celebrated the jubilee year of renowned Armenian composer Arno Babadjanian, and united around the International Mother Language Day.
Webinar Dedicated to Arno Babadjanian
On February 28, AGBU AVC hosted a special webinar titled “Arno Babadjanian at 105: An Armenian Beat Through Music, Time, And Memory” on the AVC Learning Zone (ALZ) platform.
It was dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the birth of Arno Babadjanian. The guest speaker of the webinar was distinguished violinist, scholar, and pedagogue Dr. Nuné Melikian, who is also the author of “Arno Babadjanian: An Armenian Beat in Soviet Time,” the first English-language book dedicated to the composer.
She shared exclusive insights, personal reflections, music excerpts and captivating stories from the composer’s life and creative journey, helping participants gain a deeper appreciation of his artistic legacy. Towards the end, the webinar also included a lively discussion, a Q&A session, and meaningful exchanges between attendees from around the world.

The ALZ platform is a special hub for Armenian culture lovers, where a variety of multimedia resources and archival video recordings are displayed. Apart from the webinar recording, a virtual tour of Babadjanian’s house in Dilijan and other resources on the topic are also available.

International Mother Language Day
On February 21, in celebration of the International Mother Language Day, AGBU AVC prepared a video involving the people behind the company. AVC team members were asked to pick up their pens and answer a few questions about the Armenian language:
The answers were both personal and heartwarming. This small but special project wove together AVC’s mission to honor and preserve the Armenian language and AGBU’s shared mission to unite and uplift the Armenian world through education.
