For AVC, 2016 was marked with the participation in two international chess conferences: the conference of “Theoretical and Practical Issues of Chess Education in Schools” in Tsaghkadzor, Armenia, and the Education Chess Conference (ECU) in Batumi, Georgia. The international conference entitled “Theoretical and Practical Issues of Chess Education in Schools,” organized by the Chess Academy of Armenia, was hosted in Tsaghkadzor, Armenia from October 1 to 2, 2016. The conference had invited representatives of the sphere from around two dozen countries to share their recent achievements and research results in teaching chess in schools. AVC’s online experience in teaching chess to individuals, as well as to community centers and schools, was of great interest to the participants. In her presentation, AVC Academic Director Dr. Hasmik Khalapyan first outlined the program benefits, then emphasized the teaching methodology and the pedagogical approaches used by AVC in teaching chess online. The participants and the guests were acquainted with the program’s innovative capabilities as well as the opportunities both teachers and students could have in learning chess through AVC courses. From October 25 to 26, 2016, AVC’s Online Chess Program was presented in the first-ever Education Chess Conference (ECU) in Batumi, Georgia, during the FIDE World Cadets Chess Championship. The conference participants and the representatives of the European chess family showed a great interest in AVC’s achievements. Dr. Hasmik Khalapyan spoke about AVC’s successful attempts in teaching chess by implementing a shift of focus from the teacher to the learners, which puts the utilization of student-centered teaching methods into practice. The two conferences served as a great benchmark for further cooperation with remarkable representatives of the sphere to introduce AVC’s Online Chess Program to more and more chess-oriented audiences.
